About

I see the world through quilt-colored glasses. I make quilts for both comfort and beauty that answer my perpetual question of could that be a quilt?.

More fleeting questions like how big is a marlin? also have their time to shine. Once in a while I just find joy in sewing squares together.

My work seeks to surprise, delight, and warm hearts. ‘I didn’t know quilts could be like that’ is the highest compliment I could receive.

Bio

Middle school home economics class is where I learned to sew — slowly and without having to wind my own bobbins. The beautiful patterns, juicy textures, semi-permanence, and infinite potential of fabric sparked something in me that no other medium has.

I was a teenager in high school when quilting came into my life through the pages of a 1970s Better Homes & Gardens book. My first quilt was scissor-cut with no care for measurements, and the stitches were true toe-hookers, so naturally I fell in love. My second quilt showed a slight technical improvement thanks to a block of wood as a template and the purchase of a rotary cutter.

Over the next few years, I completed two degrees in social research while learning the ins and outs of quilt making from books, friends, and teachers.

Creating my own designs has always been my preference, and non-utilitarian pieces have become my norm now that every bed, chair, and couch in my home has a cozy selection of quilts to choose from… though I still like to do what I call ‘palette cleanser’ projects after a big finish.

Stepping away from office work in 2023 has allowed me to spend most of my waking hours learning, volunteering, and working in the quilt industry.

My practice has given me joy, frustration, connection, warmth, an appreciation for the past, a sense of achievement, an artistic outlet, kinship with my ancestors, a few sleepless nights, and a small but meaningful income. This work takes me closer to the person I want to become.
